Thorn Creek Basin Sanitary District Featured in Wastewater Publication
Thorn Creek Basin Sanitary District has been featured in a recent Illinois wastewater association publication.
The Illinois Water Environment Association (IWEA) has published an article profiling the District in the Winter 2025 edition of its Clarifier newsletter. The IWEA is a community of dedicated professionals working to advance fundamental knowledge of the Illinois water environment. Its members include engineers, scientists and plant operators, and its mission is “to connect and enrich the Illinois water community and increase the awareness of the impact and value of water”.
District Executive Director Jennifer Hindel stated: “It is truly an honor for Thorn Creek Basin Sanitary District to be recognized as a featured organization by the Illinois Water Environment Association. The District Board of Trustees is commended for its leadership in enabling excellent performance and a high level of service to customers – all at a low cost.”
The article may be accessed at https://www.iweasite.org/newsletters.php. It includes photos and discussion of the District’s formation and history dating back to 1928; a detailed review of the main plant origins and evolution over the years; and a discussion of sustainability initiatives undertaken by the District.
